H.O.P.E. is an environmentally friendly charitable project providing training and work
experience for people with learning disabilities living in Angus. H.O.P.E.
was set up on the grounds of Hospitalfield House, Westway, Arbroath with
the kind support of the Hospitalfield House Trust.
We aim to improve opportunities for social, educational and recreational
activities for the identified group of people living in the local area,
and to provide the local community with a reliable source of organically
grown vegetables and plants.
| Management
Committee |
H.O.P.E. is run by a management of local people including
a doctor, social work staff, a financial expert, a representative
from Angus College, staff from the organic garden, a representative
from of the trainees and other interested individuals with the relevant
experience. |
| Directors |
Policy decisions are made by the company's directors who have
a broad base of relevant experience. The directors meet about 4 times
per year. |
| Gardeners |
The day to day running of the garden is carried out
by a full-time gardener and two part-time gardeners who are employed by
the company. |
| Trainees |
There are now over 20 trainees attending the garden
on a regular basis. All the trainees have been taking part in horticultural
training modules, which have been set up with the support of Angus
College. |
| Volunteers |
Currently about 10 volunteers are assisting H.O.P.E. by supporting
the project in a variety of ways. These volunteer helpers are recruited
from the local community; they provide an essential role in all
garden activities:
- supporting adult trainees
- helping with gardening work
- garden sales and fundraising
- vegetable box scheme - administration and deliveries
