Volunteers

Volunteers fill varied roles within the HOPE project:

The jobs include

• Supporting the trainees to carry out a variety of horticultural tasks and helping with training for SQA modules.
• Providing assistance within the garden and handling sales during weekday afternoons.
• Taking part in a weekend rota of opening and closing the polytunnels together with watering plants at the weekends during the summer months.
• Delivering vegetable boxes and returning empty boxes to the garden.
• Helping at fund raising events. e.g. open days, coffee mornings, catering at the Arbroath Sea Fest.
  

We try to make volunteering a positive and enjoyable experience at H.O.P.E. Volunteers are involved in helping to develop plans for the project and we try to provide relevant training opportunities to enhance their experience.

The volunteers meet together on a regular basis and will be helping trainees to produce their own portfolios. These portfolios will include details of the projects that the trainees have been involved with, the types of gardening activities that they like most and new activities they want to try in the future..

H.O.P.E.'s volunteers received great recognition in 2007 when H.O.P.E. was awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. This award was presented to Cedric de Voil (H.O.P.E.'s chairman) by Georgiana Osborne (the Lord Lieutenant for Angus) at a reception in the magnificent Hospitalfield House on 29th August 2007. Cedric's speech on that occasion paid tribute to the volunteers who have contributed so much to H.O.P.E.'s success.

If you would like to become a volunteer, you can pick up an application form at the garden or email enquiries@hopegardentrust.org.uk and ask for one. For all volunteers H.O.P.E. undertakes to carry out a Disclosures search as is recommended by the Scottish Executive for persons working with vulnerable groups. This information is treated with complete confidentiality.
