Open Days
- Our periodic open days are a good source of income and a great addition
to the Arbroath social calendar. We have plants and produce for sale,
demonstrations (e.g. cookery, willow weaving), tea/coffee/juice and
snacks for sale, tours of the garden and a chance to relax and chat
in the picnic area. We now have a barbecue which was constructed by
Richard (gardener) and George (trainee). There is plenty of parking
along the Westway, and if the weather is unkind the polytunnels are
there to retreat to!
Coffee Mornings
- These are a popular fundraising event in Arbroath, meeting a social
need as well as bringing in income for the project. In addition to the
home baking and bricabrac stalls, we also have H.O.P.E. plants and produce
for sale. Offers of help to staff the kitchen and the stalls and to
serve the coffee are always welcome!
Sponsored Activities
- Trainees often take part in fundraising activities. For example, H.O.P.E.
trainees and long distance runners Gerry, Alan and Ian raised money
for H.O.P.E. in the Balmoral Road Race. All three are part of a Montrose
running club and they decided to raise sponsorship money for both the
club and H.O.P.E. by completing the gruelling race. The initiative came
from the trainees themselves and we are very grateful for all their
efforts both in getting sponsors and completing the distance. Gerry
took part again the following year and raised enough sponsorship money
for 2 new wheelbarrows.

Recipe Book - one day!
- Vegetable box scheme members receive a recipe sheet with most deliveries
to provide some new ideas for less common vegetables, and exciting innovations
for the more regular vegetables in the box. Eventually we will compile
these and more recipes into a booklet to raise some funds for H.O.P.E.,
and we would welcome any contributions from readers, particularly the
more unusual recipe ideas. See our "Contact us" page for details
of how to get your recipes to us.
