Angus
College
Angus College Special Programme's joinery students, including some
H.O.P.E. trainees have added to their bird tables' success by providing
H.O.P.E. with five well-crafted picnic tables. They also provided frames
for H.O.P.E.'s polytunnel doors.
H.O.P.E. has a plant stall at the Angus College/St Vigeans Church Open
Day each summer, held at The Glebe at St Vigeans, a small village on the
outskirts of Arbroath. Our participation not only increases plant income,
but more importantly, our profile within the local community. The event
is very well attended by the public and this helps to make local people
aware of the H.O.P.E. Garden and the work that we do.
Angus
Council Social Work Department
Over the past two years H.O.P.E. has received some grant aid from
Angus Council. This grant has covered running costs such as electricity
and water bills, insurance cover and the cost of hiring a portaloo at
the garden. In 2003 the grant received was £2,358.
Patrick
Allan-Fraser of Hospitalfield Trust
H.O.P.E. was set up 10 years ago with the support of the Hospitalfield
Trust. Patrick Allan-Fraser was a local landowner and agriculturist as
well as being a painter. The Trust provides the land for the garden, which
is adjacent to Hospitalfield House, on a rent free basis.
H.O.P.E. holds Open Days to coincide with Hospitalfield
House being open to the public, though the Open Doors Angus Scheme.
Volunteer
Centre Angus
The Volunteer Centre Angus actively recruits volunteers for
the H.O.P.E. garden. They also help prospective volunteers to complete
forms for Disclosure Scotland when these are required. H.O.P.E. had a
stall at the 2004 Volunteers Fair which was held in Forfar. As a result,
a number of people joined the organic vegetable box scheme and plant sales
received a boost .
Volunteers include people who are keen to work with persons with learning
disabilities. Others may make themselves available to deliver vegetable
boxes or simply do some gardening jobs under the supervision of H.O.P.E.'s
gardeners. No previous gardening experience is necessary.
AAVO
Angus Association of Voluntary Organisations
AAVO has been a regular supporter of H.O.P.E. The staff have provided
regular practical support such as the printing of H.O.P.E.'s leaflet and
newsletters.
